The purpose of this study was to determine seasonal variability in the amount and patterns of free-living physical activity (PA) in women. PA was measured in 57 women aged 20 – 54 years during three seasons within one year. The results showed that during winter, women spent more time in sedentary activities than in summer, engaging in 29 less min/ day in light activities and 6 less min/ day in moderate and vigorous activities. The results show that women living in the southeastern US had lower PA levels in winter compared with summer and spring/fall, with the magnitude of this effect being greater on weekend days than on weekdays.
