Recreation Facility Evaluation Tool
The Recreation Facility Evaluation Tool was prepared by
the University of South Carolina Prevention Research Center for
a Special Interest Project funded by the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention. A paper describing the development of the tool is
in press.
This instrument can be used to identify and evaluate Parks, Playgrounds,
Sports Fields, Aquatic Facilities/Pools, and Recreation Centers.
Each park and recreation center can be rated with respect to safety,
condition, and maintenance of the facility. The evaluation tool
was developed for facilities in a medium-sized county (population
104,237) located in the southeastern United States. The tool takes
approximately 20 minutes to complete per facility. Instructions
are included in the document.
