Evaluation of Automated Systems for Assessing Physical Activity
in Specific Environments
FUNDING SOURCE: Active Living Research, Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation
TIMELINE: December 2002 - May 2005
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Patricia Sharpe, PhD, MPH (USC PRC)
This project involves the development of an automated system for
monitoring the use of indoor and outdoor facilities for physical
activity and to assess the validity and reliability of the system.
The monitoring system that will be developed, field tested, and
refined is based on a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS)
image acquisition sensor that addresses the weaknesses of existing
automated systems. Documentation will be placed in the public domain.
