NETWORK TO ENHANCE TOBACCO CONTROL ACTIVITIES

The goal of the project was to link, support and share research and expertise related to tobacco control and youth development and empowerment (YD&E) at academic research centers. A listserve was a convenient mechanism for linking those institutions. The intention of the listserve was to disseminate questions, information, announcements, lessons learned, feedback, suggestions, possibilities, and other ideas regarding YD&E and tobacco research respectively. The USC PRC was hopeful that long-term use of a listserve for communication and information sharing among tobacco control and YD&E researchers could be established and institutionalized.
The project had the following specific objectives:
- Establish an electronic network (listserve) of tobacco control and YD&E researchers accessible through the Internet.
- Publicize this electronic network among all 24 Prevention Research Centers.
- Regularly submit timely information relevant to tobacco control and YD&E over the listserve.
- Sponsor regular conference calls among the three YD&E funded PRCs, the CDC Technical Advisor, the CDC Foundation Program Officer, and the American Legacy Foundation Evaluation Coordinator for youth development and empowerment discussions.
- Distribute and critique the conceptual framework and program model guidelines for future YD&E tobacco use prevention programs.
