The overall goal of this Network was to reduce the prevalence of obesity in the United States.  The Network partners collaborated in a two-year process to develop a national research and intervention agenda for the prevention and control of obesity in the United States. The specific aims were to:

  • Explore policy and environmental strategies and approaches to the prevention and control of obesity, including community-based programs and interventions to promote physical activity and nutrition

  • Provide technical assistance and consultation to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and to state health departments on policy development and the design, implementation, and evaluation of obesity prevention and intervention programs
