DEMENTIA RISK REDUCTION RESEARCH NETWORK - COLLABORATING CENTERS

FUNDING SOURCE: CDC, 2022-2023

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Chih-Hsiang (Jason) Yang

CO-INVESTIGATORS:

The increase in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) has become a public health crisis. The UofSC PRC is one of three centers funded through the Prevention Research Center’s Dementia Risk Reduction Research Network (DRRRN) to implement promising, evidence-informed interventions and solutions to reduce risk for dementia and improve quality of life for individuals with symptoms of cognitive decline. Dr. Jason Yang will lead research efforts to evaluate a 24-week mindful walking program targeting African American older adults at risk for ADRD to sustain their cognition and quality of life. This project is unique as it integrates two modifiable factors – physical activity and mindfulness practice – both play a beneficial role in improving brain health. If successful, mindful walking activity may represent a promising and scalable strategy to promote healthy brain aging among older adults in greatest need.
