The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), which was authorized by TEA-21, analyzes and publishes transportation statistics including non-motorized methods. Among others, the BTS conducts the National Personal Transportation Survey and the Omnibus Survey.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity website includes news on nutrition, physical activity and public health programs, including science-based activities for children and adults that address the role of nutrition and physical activity in health promotion and the prevention and control of chronic disease. It also includes information on professional training opportunities, publications and information for consumers, and descriptions of programs and projects.

Eat Smart. Play Hard™

Eat Smart. Play Hard™ is a USDA campaign aimed at promoting positive changes in nutrition and PA among youth and their caregivers and is part of the President's Healthier US initiative. The website provides schools, educators, and health workers with resources to promote healthy eating and PA among youth. Resources include posters, brochures, activity sheets, stickers, and guidance materials.

The National Institute on Aging has a great information on exercise for older adults. The site contains information on exercise benefits, safety, charting progress and offers great tips and ideas for charting progress.

The NCSL website contains a list of state legislation related to physical activity and nutrition, with additional links and resources of interest to physical activity and nutrition policy makers.

National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute is part of the National Institutes of Health. Information is available on NHLBI programs, publications, and grants.

President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports

The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports is charged with promoting the benefits of sports, fitness, and physical activity and motivating all Americans to become and stay active and fit. Their website includes information on the President's Challenge Youth Physical Fitness Awards Program, the Physical Activity and Fitness Research Digest, and physical activity-related materials.

Steps to a HealthierUS is an initiative from Health and Human Services that advances President Bush's goal of HealthierUS to help Americans live longer, healthier lives. The initiative will address both individual lifestyle choices and policies that support healthy behaviors.
