Heart Disease and Women: Be Physically Active

PRODUCED BY: National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute

TYPE OF MATERIAL: 4-page handout

APPROPRIATE POPULATIONS: Multi-ethnic, Adults, Older Adults

READING LEVEL (SMOG): 9th Grade

PUBLICATION DATE: 1994

Comments:
This material is designed for adult women of all ethnicities, who have heart disease or are at risk of developing heart disease. It gives a brief overview of coronary heart disease, its risk factors, and how physical activity can reduce its occurrence. Written on the 9th grade reading level, it is too high for many individuals. The material is full of many facts but is not visually appealing. It has a wonderful sample of a walking program along with the benefits of regular physical activity.
